Coronado S3 Acceleration Server

Cloud storage has numerous advantages such as a lower cost off ownership, embedded disaster recovery and multi-site access. These advanced Cloud Solutions come at a cost - namely latency. The overhead of S3 combined with slower communication lines to the cloud slow down file processing. Users are frustrated saving files as the hour glass stays on the screen longer. To overcome these challenges, BridgeSTOR has created the Coronado S3 Acceleration Server.

The Coronado S3 Acceleration Server has been designed to eliminate performance issues by acting as a sophisticated HTML edge cache. Traditional edge cache devices only save HTML header content so similar requests are handled closer to the users and users have less interaction with web servers. The Coronado S3 Acceleration Server is “S3 REST aware” so the content sent and returned from the Cloud Storage will be cached closer to the users. Background threads then move the data to the Cloud Storage reducing latency for all users. The Coronado Multi-Protocol Cloud Bridges communicate with the S3 Acceleration Server allowing for quick access to saved files and the Coronado View Manager is used to lock other Multi-Protocol Bridges from the file data until it all data successfully arrives into the cloud storage.

Cloud Acceleration Server Features

Sophisticated Edge Cache

The S3 Acceleration Server has been designed to enhance performance when interacting with cloud storage. The Coronado Multi-Protocol Cloud Bridges will send S3 data is to the Acceleration Server which promptly writes the data to its internal disk cache. Once successfully written a successful acknowledgement is returned back to the Bridge allowing it to continue process user requests. Multiple background threads in the Acceleration Server will quickly move the data in parallel into the cloud storage. All future reads will be done from the Acceleration Cache again removing latency from the system. The Global View Manager is responsible to make sure the cache contains the most recent data and older data will be removed from the cache.

Scalable

Multiple Coronado Multi-Protocol Cloud Bridges may share an Acceleration Server and would no longer be required to have disk cache. This allows multiple Bridges to share a single cached Acceleration Server saving management and disk costs.

High Availability

Two BridgeSTOR Acceleration Servers may be combined in a mirrored environment for high availability. When a Mutli-Protocol Cloud Bridge writes data to the S3 Accelerator it will not receive a response until the data has successfully been written to both Acceleration Servers. Only one Acceleration Server will communicate with the Cloud Storage. If one Acceleration Server dies, the other Acceleration Server will continue to write to the Cloud Storage.

Hi-Speed Disk Cache

Acceleration Servers may use any type of disk including SSD or SATA drives. This allows for lower latency as responses will not be returned to Multi-Protocol Cloud Bridges until all data has been successfully saved to disk.
